Picture of the Day – Boat Winch, Aldeburgh: Mono

When photographing items of old machinery or urban decay, the use of mono imagery tends to make more of an impact, emphasising the passage of time and the gradual metamorphosis of the subject into something no longer of any use. This old boat winch on the beach at Aldeburgh was once used to haul the many small fishing boats onto the beach where the daily catches were unloaded into sheds as there is no harbour or mooring facilities at this Suffolk coastal town.
